On June 7th, our school’s Retired Workers Office (Retired Cadres Party Committee) in conjunction with Xinmin Community of Xijie Street of Bincheng District held a unique activity of making zongzi named “Sharing a better Community Together, with Warmth and Care for the Elderly” during the Dragon Boat Festival.
The secretary of the first branch of the Retired Cadres Party Committee presided over the event. The head of the RWO in his speech expressed the hope that the first branch of the Retired Cadres Party Committee, based on the integration and co-construction with the community, would further strengthen organizational development, demonstrate leading role, promote resource sharing, enhance harmony and civilization, and carry out colourful activities to encourage residents to become advocates, promoters, and practitioners of civilized behavior and volunteer spirit.
During the event, everyone was highly enthusiastic. They showcased their skills in preparing zongzi, from arranging the bamboo leaves, filling with glutinous rice, sealing and tying, and soon enough, several large pots were filled with neatly wrapped zongzi. The fragrance of the bamboo leaves filled the air, and the scene was filled with laughter and joy. This event not only promoted the development of traditional Chinese culture but also enriched the spiritual and cultural life of the retirees, and enhanced neighborly friendship.
The staff of the Xinmin Community of Xijie Street of Bincheng District, and relevant teachers from our school’s RWO, as well as foreign teachers, participated in the event.
