Yellow River Delta Eco-environment Research Center

        Research Center for Eco-environmental Sciences of the Yellow River Delta (YRD), Binzhou University, was founded in 2004 and is the first comprehensive research institution engaged in research on eco-environmental science and technology of YRD in Shandong province. In 2007, it was authorized as Shandong Key Laboratory of Eco-environmental Sciences of the Yellow River Delta (hereinafter abbreviated to ECOYRD) by the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province.

Currently there are 35 staff members in ECOYRD, including 6 professors, 15 associate professors, and 29 doctors working in various areas. There are 4 research groups engaged in the researches of biogeochemistry and global change, vegetation rehabilitation and restoration of saline and alkaline lands, biodiversity protection, pollution ecology and restoration, and ecosystem services and valuation assessment. ECOYRD is also authorized as the Shandong provincial key discipline of ecology, Shandong provincial characteristic specialty of ecology, and national science education base.

ECOYRD has established experiment platformsin terms of sample pretreatment, element analysis, microbiology analysis,plant ecophysiology, remediation of water and soil environment. ECOYRD also has set up a number of academic relationships and links with some well known institutes or academies in China. Several important international or national conferences or symposia on eco-environmental sciences have been held here.

Funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province etc,ECOYRD has successively carried out the frontier researches on environmental science, wetland ecology, and stress ecology since 2004, and has done some creative works on the water cycle in ecosystem, ecological stoichiometry, environment safety assessment, soil and water pollution control, ecotoxicological effects of persistent organic pollutants, wetland restoration, saline-alkali land improvement, and many other ecological issues in Shandong province, China.
